Very cool replica! The first thing that struck me about this gun was how heavy it was. It is nearly 8.5 pounds. I have never seen a real Tommy gun in person, but apparently, one of the drawbacks of the real guns were their weight. It has a very solid action, and good loud engagement when the trigger is pulled… This is a non-firing replica of the military version of the “Chicago Typewriter”, complete with stick magazine. In World War II, this weapon was used successfully by US airborne paratroopers. Good solid reproduction of this great gun.
The Thompson in Military Trim
The military version of the Thompson is the one with the plain barrel and the box magazine rather than the drum, and it is the version that served through the second world war. The replica copies the military furniture: the straight forend, the rear sight and the sling swivels that the gangster era guns did not have.
It is a heavy piece, close to four kilograms in some versions, and that weight is the point. The Thompson was expensive and heavy in reality, and a replica that feels like a toy misses the reason the gun is interesting. For display, use two brackets and put the sling under the receiver so the weight does not hang from the front sight.
